About Skilled Trades Headhunters

At Skilled Trades Headhunters, this is what we do all day: recruit skilled trades professionals.

Specialist recruiting for the work you need done.

Who we are

Skilled Trades Headhunters is a specialist recruiting firm for the skilled trades. We are based in Miami and recruit nationwide in all 50 states for local, relocation and traveling roles. Our core model is permanent placement on contingency. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

We work for the owner who needs another service truck on the road, the superintendent who needs someone ready for the next phase, and the maintenance manager who cannot leave a shift without the right skills. Those are different searches. A strong installer may not want a service route. A plant mechanic may know the equipment but not want your rotation. We ask about those differences before we start contacting people.

The title gets the conversation started. The work decides who belongs on the shortlist. We want to know what the person will handle without help and where they will need support. We also ask what makes your opening worth considering. A tradesperson already doing good work needs a reason to leave a familiar crew or shop.

Local hiring is not the same as relocation, and neither is the same as traveling work. A local hire needs a workable commute. Someone moving needs a clear picture of the location and the job beyond the offer letter. A traveling hire needs the travel arrangements and site expectations settled. We build the search around the arrangement you can actually offer.

Part of a family of specialist firms

We belong to a group of recruiting brands run from Miami. Each is built around one industry so the recruiter working your search already knows the trades, the titles, the licenses and where the good people work. Skilled Trades Headhunters is the part of that group focused on hands-on trades work and field leadership.

That focus matters when similar titles hide different jobs. A commercial service electrician and a new construction electrician may both hold the right license. Their working days can still be very different. One has to diagnose a fault in an occupied building and explain the next step to the customer. The other may be strongest at layout and installation with a project crew. We need to know which person your opening calls for.

Specialization does not mean guessing what you need from a job title. It means knowing which questions are worth asking. Who handles inspections? Does the person take a service truck home? Is there someone to help with an unfamiliar system? Answers like these affect the search and the conversations with candidates.

You should also know the recruiting model before you agree to a search. We explain how contingency placement works and where another hiring route may fit better. You can read our approach on How We Work and compare the different recruiting models on How We Compare.

How We WorkHow We Compare

How we work

We start with Search Calibration to agree on the work and required credentials, then Market Mapping to find the right source pools. Professional Contact Intelligence helps us reach those people directly, and Persistent Personalized Outreach gives them a clear reason to consider your opening. Live Candidate Qualification checks their experience against the job, while Candidate Intelligence and Process Support gives you the context to interview and make a decision.

What we recruit

Every trade, from apprentice to master and foreman. Our coverage includes building systems and construction trades, as well as industrial maintenance and utility work. It also reaches the people who keep vehicles and equipment running, and the field leaders who keep crews working safely. We recruit for the exact work you need done, not just the broad category on a resume. An apprentice search starts with the support you can provide and the path to learning the trade. A journeyman search asks what the person can handle independently and which credentials apply in the job location. A foreman search needs a clear picture of the crew and the decisions that person will own. Service work adds customer contact and the need to diagnose problems without a project team beside the truck. Installation work brings different questions about drawings and coordination with other trades. Those differences belong in the search from the start. We do not treat helpers and apprentices as day labor. They are part of a pipeline a client can build with proper supervision. Our trades index lists the titles and links to pages that explain the work and what we check. Use it to find the closest role, or tell us what you need if your shop uses a different title.

What we promise

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

You should get a clear conversation about your opening, not pressure to accept someone who does not fit. We explain what we have checked and flag questions that still need an answer. A license matters, but it does not replace a discussion about the actual work. We check the relevant credential and issuing jurisdiction, then look at the experience behind it.

We do not promise a fixed shortlist date before we know the search. Availability depends on the role and the terms you can offer. If a requirement is narrowing the pool, we will discuss it with you rather than quietly ignoring it. You decide which requirements are necessary and which can change.

What do buyers ask about this?

Which trades does the firm actually recruit?

Hands-on skilled trades only: licensed tradespeople, field technicians and the foremen and service leaders who run them. We do not take office, IT or general labor searches, so every conversation with a candidate is about trade work we understand.

Is every search permanent and on contingency?

Direct hire on contingency is the standard engagement: no upfront fee, and you pay only if you hire. Contract or temp-to-hire arrangements are available only on request and are agreed separately in writing, so ask on the first call if that is what the opening needs.

Can you recruit for a local crew as well as for roles that relocate or travel?

Yes. Some searches are for a crew that goes home every night, others need someone willing to relocate, and some are traveling roles with per diem and nights away. We settle which one it is before contacting anyone, because it changes who will say yes.

What happens after I send an opening?

Our team reads it and comes back with questions about the real work: scope, license level, pay, truck and schedule. Then the search is calibrated, people already doing the work are contacted and qualified live, and you see a short list with a written brief on each person.
