Seasonal Ramps
At Skilled Trades Headhunters, this is what we do all day: recruit skilled trades professionals.
We fill seasonal ramps for landscape, irrigation, pool, pest, HVAC peak and storm season when the need repeats every year and we can build the pipeline ahead of time. We are not a same-day labor hall.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

Seasonal Ramps in one line
We fill seasonal ramps for landscape, irrigation, pool, pest, HVAC peak and storm season when the need repeats every year and we can build the pipeline ahead of time. We are not a same-day labor hall.
Permanent contingency search is our default. This arrangement is available on request, with terms set per engagement.
We recruit and present candidates. We do not employ, pay or insure contract workers. Any contract or temp-to-perm arrangement is between you and the worker or the worker's own employer, on terms agreed in writing before the start date.
How the search runs
Seasonal ramps that repeat every year
Some trades have a season. Landscape, irrigation, pool, pest, heating and cooling peaks and storm response all surge on a predictable calendar. Seasonal ramps are available on request for clients whose need repeats every year, so that we can build the pipeline ahead of time. They are not our default, which remains permanent direct hire, and terms are set for each engagement.
A seasonal ramp works best when it is part of a year round plan, with permanent leaders and a repeatable group of returning technicians.
The routes and crews we help build are meant to repeat. Our goal is for the same good people to return, and for new ones to join them, each year.
Not a same-day labor hall
We are not a same-day labor hall. We do not dispatch workers by the day, we do not supply laborers on short notice and we do not run a bench of available hands. A seasonal ramp with us is a planned recruiting effort for skilled technicians and crew leaders, started well before the busy months. If you need workers tomorrow morning, we are not the right firm.
We also decline requests that look like attempts to staff daily labor through a skilled trades recruiter.
Our process is slower and more deliberate than a labor hall, and it produces people who know the work and stay for the season.
Who the employer is
In a seasonal ramp the hiring company is the employer. It pays the technicians, insures them, trains them and manages safety. We recruit and qualify candidates, and we do not employ, pay or insure them. Clients should confirm seasonal employment rules, classification and any required notices for the job location with their own advisors.
Seasonal technicians are still held to the same standards of training and supervision as any other employee of the hiring company.
Why plan early
Seasonal technicians commit months ahead. The best of them choose their employer in winter for the following summer, and licensing can take weeks. Firms that start recruiting at the first warm day find the pool picked over. We encourage clients to begin with a plan covering routes, territories, credentials and training, so new technicians are productive from the first week.
A written route and territory plan helps candidates see the work clearly, and we help clients draft one.
Storm season is the least predictable, so we help clients prepare crews in advance rather than react after the event.
Credentials and training
Pest control, irrigation, pool and some heating and cooling work require licensing, certification or supervised training that may not be available on the day a person starts. We confirm credentials with dates and mark each as something to confirm for the job location. Clients should schedule training before the rush and plan start dates around any waiting periods.
Training time before the season is an investment, and we encourage clients to treat it that way.
Retention and the return season
The most valuable seasonal technician is the one who comes back. We ask clients what they offer between seasons, such as reduced hours, other work or a clear return arrangement, and we describe it honestly to candidates. Technicians who know the plan return. Those who are surprised by winter do not, and they tell their colleagues.
Retention also depends on pay timing, vehicle quality and respect for the technician's time.
Pay timing, route design and vehicle quality are common reasons people come back or do not.
Screening and sources
We ask about route experience, equipment, customer communication and a recent hard day. Candidates verify their own records for local compliance, as we prioritize validating trade skills and actual field performance. We approach working technicians, returning seasonal staff from other firms and graduates of technical programs, describing pools by type only and never naming employers.
Pools are described by type only, and we do not promise volume or speed.
How to ask
Tell us the trades, the territory, the season and the credentials involved. We will say whether a seasonal ramp is realistic or whether permanent direct hire is a better fit. Our how we work and recruiting fees pages describe the remaining options, and we answer questions plainly before anything is agreed.
No timeline, rate or volume is promised here, and each ramp is discussed on its own terms.
We also ask whether the client wants returning technicians from last year introduced again, and we reach out to them first when they are open to it.

Questions
What does a trades search cost?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. Fee terms are set out in the signed agreement.
When is the fee due?
A fee is due only when you hire a candidate we presented, as set out in the signed agreement.
What if the hire does not work out?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
How do you verify candidates?
Where a license or certification is required for the work, we confirm it with the issuing authority for the jurisdiction of the work. We discuss the scope in a live conversation. Any MVR, drug or background check that the role requires is handled by the employer with the candidate's authorization. We do not administer those checks.
Do you recruit union or open shop?
Either. Tell us which applies. Union referral rules and signatory agreements stay between you and the local, and we scope the search around them.
Is the search confidential?
Yes. We do not name your company to a candidate before they agree to a conversation, and we do not contact a candidate's current employer about them.
Do you recruit nationwide?
Yes, for local and traveling roles. We search by scope, not by city page.

We agree on the work, location, pay, schedule and credentials before contacting anyone.

We contact working tradespeople individually about the opening and what would make a move worthwhile.
