- Crews at peer contractors, service businesses, plants and facilities that do the same work
- Public license and certification lookups, where the trade has them
- Apprenticeship and training program graduates who are now working
- Veterans with related military trade training
- Referrals from tradespeople we have already talked to

How the search runs
Surfaces people touch every day
The flooring and tile family covers the trades that finish what people walk on. Tile setters bed ceramic, porcelain and stone. Floor covering installers lay sheet vinyl, plank, carpet and resilient products. Hardwood installers nail, glue and refinish wood. Resinous and polished concrete installers grind, coat and burnish slabs for warehouses, kitchens and showrooms. Everything depends on the substrate, so the best people read moisture, flatness and cure before they open a box. We recruit working installers, qualify them in conversation and brief employers in writing.
Finish work is judged by the eye and the foot. A lippage edge between tiles, a gap at a wall or a bubble under vinyl is visible for years, and owners remember who laid it. That is why employers in this family care so much about patience, tool care and clean habits, and why we ask installers to show or describe finished work in detail.
Titles we fill
We fill Tile Setter, Floor Covering Installer, Hardwood Flooring Installer and Refinisher, and Resinous and Polished Concrete Floor Installer. The first three have dedicated role pages with alternate titles and screening detail, and the resinous and polished concrete title is covered within this family and can be requested by name. If you use another name, such as epoxy floor mechanic or carpet mechanic, tell us the daily work and we will map it to the right trade and say so plainly.
Licensing and certification distinctions
Most flooring trades have no statewide journeyman license, but contractor licensing, home improvement registration and project requirements can apply, and the rules differ by place. Tile installers may hold training or certification from industry bodies that test setting methods. Floor covering installers may carry manufacturer or association training. Resinous flooring often requires product-specific training from the coating maker, and silica control training applies when grinding concrete. Treat each as a fact to confirm for the job location, since none carries over automatically.
Where these trades work
Employers include residential remodelers, new home builders, commercial flooring contractors, tile and stone shops, school and hospital facilities teams, retail and hospitality renovation firms, and industrial coating contractors. A residential tile setter works around owners and finish expectations. A commercial installer works to a turnover schedule in a building that may be occupied. A resinous installer works in food plants and warehouses where downtime is expensive. We ask clients about the setting first, so candidates are briefed on pace, hours and conditions.
How we qualify installers
We talk with working installers about the last big job, the substrate problems they met and how they solved them. For tile we ask about layout, flatness tolerances and waterproofing. For resilient flooring we ask about adhesives and moisture testing. For hardwood we ask about acclimation, fastening and finishing. For resinous work we ask about prep profile and cure windows. Employer-run background, drug and driving checks apply to candidates who consent, and we do not run or hold them.
We also listen for how the installer handles a bad substrate. Strong people stop, document the problem and ask for a fix, instead of covering it and hoping for the best, and employers should want that instinct.
Permanent hire by default
Our default engagement is permanent direct hire where the hiring firm manages the person on its own payroll and insurance. We operate as a search partner rather than a staffing house that maintains a pool of temporary workers. Other arrangements are open for discussion but we prefer this standard approach for clarity. This ensures direct accountability so the hiring business manages the staff member directly and the installer recognizes the firm they report to each day.
Sources and talent pools
The main source is working installers in comparable flooring companies, including crews that do adjacent trades such as countertops or cabinetry. Technical program graduates with early work experience form another pool, as do foremen and working owners considering a different operating role. Veterans with construction training sometimes fit. We describe these pools by type only and never name employers, and we approach working people directly because skilled installers rarely read job boards or answer postings.
Career paths and where to go next
A tile setter can become a lead, a foreman, an estimator or a contractor. A floor covering installer can move into project coordination, sales or a company of their own. A hardwood installer can specialize in refinishing and restoration. A resinous installer can become a crew lead or a technical representative for a product maker. Questions
What does a flooring & tile hire search cost?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. Fee terms are set out in the signed agreement.
When is the fee due?
A fee is due only when you hire a candidate we presented, as set out in the signed agreement.
What if the hire does not work out?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
How do you verify candidates?
Where a license or certification is required for the work, we confirm it with the issuing authority for the jurisdiction of the work. We discuss the scope in a live conversation. Any MVR, drug or background check that the role requires is handled by the employer with the candidate's authorization. We do not administer those checks.
Do you recruit union or open shop?
Either. Tell us which applies. Union referral rules and signatory agreements stay between you and the local, and we scope the search around them.
Is the search confidential?
Yes. We do not name your company to a candidate before they agree to a conversation, and we do not contact a candidate's current employer about them.
Do you recruit nationwide?
Yes, for local and traveling roles. We search by scope, not by city page.
