Industries that hire these trades

How the search runs

Living systems and hard surfaces

This family covers the trades that build and maintain outdoor spaces. Crew leaders run landscape installation and maintenance. Hardscape installers lay pavers, walls and patios. Irrigation technicians install and repair water systems. Arborists care for trees. Lawn and turf technicians manage grass health. Work is seasonal, physical and weather dependent, and quality shows over years. We recruit working people, qualify them in conversation and brief employers in writing, with attention to the season that employers face.

These trades are visible, and clients judge them every day. A tidy edge, a clean cut on a branch or a green lawn in a dry week shows care. Employers hiring in this family look for people who take pride in finish, handle equipment safely and talk to clients without fuss, and we ask for specific stories of customers won or recovered.

Titles we fill

We fill Landscape Crew Leader, Hardscape Installer, Irrigation Technician, Arborist and Lawn and Turf Care Technician. Landscape Crew Leader, Irrigation Technician and Arborist have dedicated role pages with alternate titles and screening detail. Hardscape Installer and Lawn and Turf Care Technician are covered within this family and can be requested by name. Line clearance tree work has its own page in the family of utility trades. Tell us what the person does and we will map it.

Licensing and certification distinctions

Requirements vary widely. Pesticide and fertilizer application usually requires a state license or certification for the person applying. Irrigation work may involve contractor licensing and backflow testing credentials. Arborists may hold the Certified Arborist credential from the International Society of Arboriculture, which is voluntary but valued, and some places regulate tree work separately. Hardscape installers may hold manufacturer or institute training. Driving a trailer may require a commercial license. We treat each as something to confirm for the job location.

Where these trades work

Employers include residential landscape companies, commercial grounds contractors, design-build firms, golf and sports turf operations, municipal parks departments, nurseries, irrigation specialists and tree care companies. A residential crew values client communication and finish. A commercial maintenance crew values route density and reliability. A design-build crew values craft and schedule. We ask clients about season, crew size and equipment first, because candidates choose by how steady the year feels.

Seasonal slow periods are a real concern for candidates, who ask about winter work, snow service, hours guaranteed and benefits. We encourage clients to explain how the off-season works so that expectations match.

How we qualify people

We ask about the largest job each person led or completed, and how they handled a hard client or a failure. For crew leaders we ask about crew size and quality control. For hardscape we ask about base preparation and drainage. For irrigation we ask about diagnostics and controllers. For arborists we ask about climbing and rigging. For turf we ask about product handling and records. You confirm every candidate meets your specific internal safety protocols and legal standards locally.

We also ask about their comfort with heat, cold, heavy lifting and chemical handling, since honest limits protect everyone.

Permanent hire by default

We operate exclusively on a direct hire basis where you manage the candidate directly on your own internal books. You handle all onboarding and administrative responsibilities for every hire. We focus strictly on the search and matching process. If your operational rhythm requires specific seasonal adjustments or a precise shift in your standard scheduling, bring those realities to the initial planning call so we match your specific timeline.

Sources and talent pools

The main pools are working crew leaders and technicians at comparable landscape, irrigation and tree care firms. Horticulture and turf program graduates with early work experience form another pool. Golf course and sports field crews supply careful turf people. Experienced leads and working owners considering a new operating role are another source. We describe pools by type only and never name employers, and we approach working people directly.

Career paths and where to go next

A crew leader can become a production manager, account manager or owner. A hardscape installer can become a lead or a designer. An irrigation technician can move into design, auditing or ownership. An arborist can become a consulting arborist or a climbing instructor. A turf technician can become a manager or superintendent. Review the requirements and specific regional trades here, then provide the details for your current opening.

Employers who describe their equipment, season length and crew culture honestly attract stronger candidates, and we help write that description so it is specific and fair, with no promises we cannot back.

Questions

What does a landscape, irrigation & tree care hire search cost?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. Fee terms are set out in the signed agreement.

When is the fee due?

A fee is due only when you hire a candidate we presented, as set out in the signed agreement.

What if the hire does not work out?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

How do you verify candidates?

Where a license or certification is required for the work, we confirm it with the issuing authority for the jurisdiction of the work. We discuss the scope in a live conversation. Any MVR, drug or background check that the role requires is handled by the employer with the candidate's authorization. We do not administer those checks.

Do you recruit union or open shop?

Either. Tell us which applies. Union referral rules and signatory agreements stay between you and the local, and we scope the search around them.

Is the search confidential?

Yes. We do not name your company to a candidate before they agree to a conversation, and we do not contact a candidate's current employer about them.

Do you recruit nationwide?

Yes, for local and traveling roles. We search by scope, not by city page.
